Welcome to the JAKE Web Site!
What can I say...this
is the group that started it all for me. All four of us were best friends after junior high and playing together was a magic
that I never forgot. The possitive experience of music and innocense formed a solid base of decades of unforgetable emotions.
I'm so happy to have the luck of saving recordings of most bands I was a part of. When I want to forget about my troubles
and stress and problems of today...I slap the old Jake cassette in and just smile.
There were a few different versions of "Jake" after the idea was born in Tom Byrnes basement. Luke VanHorn was slated
as the lead singer, Rex Culver was to play the drums and Eric Verhs jammed as the origional guitarist. But the organization
of actual music magic blossomed after Tom Byrnes, Bob Latham, Steve Messmer and Randy named the band after hearing the group
"Zeke" perform at the Teen Center. Zeke :(Danny Vaughn, Mark Strasser, Jim 'Toot' King, Tom Martin, Larry Thiel and Bruce
Mewhorter), was our inspiration, and we would sneak into their practices at the fairgrounds to study (steal) songs they would
perform.
Later versions of "Jake" would include Ed Stephans, a brief appearance by Howard Brunty, and my childhood and lifelong
friend, John Gamber.
